david williamsSenator David Williams and Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer announced their slate for governor and lt. guv today.

The announcement that the slate would not start fundraising until after the November election in order to support the election bid of Dr. Rand Paul was a direct slap at their Democratic opponents. Governor Steve Beshear and Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson have been raising money for over a year

The announcement of a Williams/Farmer ticket ends speculation that has swirled around Farmer because he was term limited from running for another term as Ag Commissioner.

Mayfield Zoning Board rejects mosque application

In a move that brought widespread applause from the crowd gathered at City Hall, Mayfield's Board of Zoning Adjustment denied the petition for a mosque at 312 E. Broadway.
The chief concern addressed by members of the board was parking.  The property itself has only limited parking.  Neighboring business owners voiced concerns over parking spilling onto their property during business hours and the rick of added congestion downtown.

America: a beacon of light with more work to do
America: a beacon of light with more work to do
Editor's Note: Brother Aaron Dowdy of the Clinton First United Methodist Church asked futurist Ivan Potter to share his thoughts on America, past, present and future on the 4th of July. Here is the transcript of what he said.

"...We have, since day one of our birth, been “the beacon of light" in a world clouded with darkness and the shadows of slavery, hunger, ignorance, war, and man’s general cruelty  to man.

However, somewhere in the hope of the 1980s we, as Americans, lost our way.

No, let me be brutally honest.

My generation of baby boomers who voiced a new idea of change with our government’s polices in the 1960’s and 1970’s lost our way...."
